谷中銀座から通り一本隔てた千駄木に店を構える、ベイクとコーヒーの店。

湯島「みじんこ」、早稲田・本郷「アンモナイト コーヒーマーケット」と続く、オーナーが手がける個性的な生き物の名を冠したシリーズの最新店として、内装・外装の設計デザイン、ロゴデザインを担当しました。
 

オーナーとブランディング担当スタッフの皆さまとイメージを共有しながら、ただ「女性好みの可愛いカフェ」にとどまらない空間を目指し、手仕事の痕跡や素材の表情を大切にしたデザインを意識しています。
 

空間の象徴となるアルマジロのオブジェは、鍛鉄工房へ依頼・制作。鎧のような独特のフォルムが、ナチュラルな空間に遊び心と力強さを添えています。
カウンターには小口が美しい無垢材を採用し、その連続する表情を鎧のように見立てることで、ファサードに設えた鍛鉄のアルマジロと呼応させました。
 

柔らかさの中に、素材の強さと手仕事の温度が宿る場所。谷根千の街に溶け込みながら、ふと立ち寄りたくなる物語を持った空間をデザインしました。

Armadillo bakes & coffee
 

Located in Sendagi, just one street away from Yanaka Ginza, Armadillo Bake & Coffee is a café specializing in baked goods and coffee.

​

As the latest project in a series of uniquely named, creature-inspired cafés by the owner—following Mijinko in Yushima and AMMONITE COFFEE MARKET in Hongo and Waseda—I was in charge of the interior and exterior design as well as the logo design.

​

Working closely with the owner and the staff responsible for branding, we shared the same vision and aimed to create a space that would go beyond a simple “cute café for women.” Instead, we focused on a design that values the traces of craftsmanship and the texture of materials.

​

The armadillo object, which serves as a symbol of the space, was commissioned to a craftsman and custom-made for this project. Its distinctive armor-like form adds a sense of playfulness and strength to the otherwise natural atmosphere. The counter is made of solid wood with beautifully exposed end grain, whose continuous texture is conceived as armor-like, echoing the wrought-iron armadillo installed on the façade.

A place where softness meets the strength of materials and the warmth of handcraft. Blending into the streets of Yanesen, the space was designed to be a place that invites people to stop by and feel a story within it.
